Cafe with Best Seoul Autumn View

Autumn in Korea is never dissapointing. It’s very beautiful everywhere since all the trees are changing color, even trees on the street. I have one of my favorit cafe where you can enjoy a cup of coffee while seing amazing view of Seoul City’s autumn scenery from above. The cafe is called Darak Cafe. Here is the view from the cafe.

The cafe seems fully sponsored by Korean government as the price is vey cheap compare to others. The cafe has so many “I Seoul U” campaign.

[HowToGetThere]

  • Take subway and get off at City Hall Station (line 2, green), take exit 2, walk towards Deoksugung main entrance.
  • Next to the main entrance of Deoksugung, there is a small road on the left, go inside the road.
  • In 30 m, you will see a tall building of Seoul City Hall Seosumun Building 1 on your left.
  • Go inside the building and go to the 13th floor

Seoul Sky

Seoul Sky is the newest tourist attraction in Seoul. Just opened 3 weeks ago on April 4th, Seoul Sky is the observation deck in Lotte World Tower, the tallest building in Korea, 5th tallest in the world now. Seoul Sky offers you such amazing view of Seoul city from “sky”, from 117th-121th floor around 500 m above grounds. The observation deck itself is the third highest in the world.

I also captured Lotte World outdoor which is located just bellow the tower.

Seoul Sky got 3 records from Guiness World Records, with the tallest double elevator, the fastest double deck elevator, and the highest glass-floor observation deck in the world.

The journey to the sky starts from the entrance which is located in the B2 floor of Lotte World Mall (exit 1 Jamsil Station). The ticket price is 27.000 won per person.

Before taking the elevator to the sky, they offer you short history and information about Seoul Sky with high sophisticated and artistic media.

As you arrive at floor 117th (the first floor of observation deck), you will see such minimalist modern interior which is amazing.

If you go up to the 118th floor, you will find the glass-floor observation deck where you can see the ground clearly under your feet.F86A1745F86A1766F86A1768

If you have more budget, you can also try to have meal in the sky of Seoul, the highest restaurant in Korea, which is on 123rd floor.

I also spotted a super romantic moment when the saxophonist took one of my friend to the centre and played an instrument for her. She said that she hopes that her future husband to propose her like that.

  • Follow the direction to exit 1 (Lotte World Mall), as you enter the main gate of B2 floor of Lotte World Mall, you can see Seoul Sky entrance on your right side.

Seoraksan

On November 7th, I managed to visit Seoraksan again, this time was late autumn peak. Unexpectedly, it was still yellow and orange even though some leaves were already on the ground.

[HowToGetThere]

  • From Seoul Express Bus Terminal or Dong Seoul Bus Terminal, take a bus to Sokcho City ( 2,5 hours, 18.100 won)
  • From Sokcho Express / Intercity Bus Terminal, across the street and take bus No. 7 or 7-1.
  • Get off at Sogongwon Bus Stop (45 mins away)

[Tips]

    • If you want to take 2 courses (cable car and Ulsan Bawi) but for only one day trip in Seorak Mountain, you gotta leave Seoul early in the morning and comeback later in the afternoon.
    • If you want to enjoy more Seorak Mountain, you can stay over in Seokcho and play Pokemon Go!
    • Check the temperature before you come so you can prepare jacket if its cold.
    • Don’t forget to bring water and food.
    • Hiking during rainy day is dangerous, you can just take the cable car course instead
    • If you don’t like hiking, you can take the cable car course.
    • Come during weekday if you want to visit during peak autumn foliage. You might have to wait for a long time for cable car (1-2 hours to get your turn)
    •  The best view of autum foliage of Seorak Mountain is from the Gwongeumsong Fortress, which means you have to take the cable car for this.

  • 7.30 leave from Seoul Express Bus Terminal
  • 10.00 arrive at Seokcho Bus Terminal
  • 10.15 take bus no 7 or 7-1
  • 11.00 arrive at main entrance of Seoraksan
  • 11.30 buy ticket for 4pm cable car
  • 11.30 – 15.00 climb up to Ulsan Bawi
  • 4.00-5.30 take cable car, Gwonggeumsong Fortress
  • 6.00 go back to Seokcho Bus Terminal
  • 7.00 take bus to Seoul Bus Express Bus Terminal
  • 9.30 arrive at Seoul

Naejangsan National Park

Naejangsan National Park is the most visited place in November as thousands people come to see the colorful autumn leaves when its hitting the peak. Located in Jeollabuk Province, about 3 hours away from Seoul, Naejangsan is the first most recommended place to spend your autumn holiday in Korea.

Just before you reach the main entrance of Naejangsan National Park, you will find Naejangsan Sculpture Park, which is located 15 mins away.

Once you enter the main entrance, you will understand what beauty of autumn is.

After walking for about 30 mins (or taking shuttle ride for 1000 won) you will arrive at Uhwajeong Pavilion (우화정) which is a pavilion in the middle of small lake. This place is located next to the Naejangsan cable car station.

As you keep walking inside the national park, you will see the Naejangsa Temple, about 10 mins walking from the cable car station.

Do not forget to take a closer picture of the maple tree leaves whose form is so lovely yet colorful.

[HowToGetThere]

  • Take bus to Jeongeup Intercity Bus Terminal from Central City Terminal (Honam Line)
  • At the bus terminal, take bus no. 171 and get off at Service Area Naejangsan Bus Terminal (휴게소.버스터미널) Bus Stop.

[Tips]

  • Best time to visit in 2016 is November 9-16
  • Take your own car or go together with travel group (taking public bus by your own is a little bothersome)
  • Come as early as possible (or stay over if possible) since so many people coming to this place, late means you gotta park your car so far away from the entrance or even can’t get seat on the bus.
  • Take the cable car earlier as the queue is longer after the lunch.

Autumn in Gyeongbokgung

Gyeongbokgung is the largest palace in Seoul, which was the main royal palace of the Joseon dynasty built in 1395. Not only contains of such interesting and great history, Gyeongbokgung offers you such amazing view of colorful autumn trees which turning peak on early November. Best time to visit would be October 28 until November 7.

One of the best spot for taking picture is Hyangwonji Pond, which is a small beautiful lake inside the palace with Hyangwonjeong Pavilion in the centre of it. It’s really pretty during autumn because the colorful trees surround this lake.

The other best spot is the place with ginko trees which turns yellow during peak. Some days after hitting the peak, the leaves will be on the ground as it falls, gives you another pretty scenery.

[HowToGetThere]

  • Take subway to Gyeongbokgung Palace Station (Line 3), Exit 5 – 50 m away coming from main entrance
  • Take subway to Gwanghwamun Station (Line 5), Exit 2 – 300 m away from the main gate

[Tips]

  • If you wear hanbok, you can enter the palace for free. Get the free ticket in the ticket counter by showing yourself in hanbok.
  • Come early in the morning if you want to spend long time since the palace is so huge.

Deoksugung is also famous for its autumn trees which are combined with the magical stone wall. You can also go to a cafe in 13th floor of the building on the left side of Deoksugung to see the colorful scenery from above (free admission). 4. Naejangsan (내장산)

3 hours ride from Seoul will be more than worthied when you can witness the best, the most beautiful, the most colorful, the super amazing view of autumn season in Naejangsan National Park. As far as you can see, you will just see colorful maple trees which makes you even wanna stay for the whole week there. The best time to visit this place is November 8 – November 15. Incheon Grand Park (인천대공원)

I managed to visit Incheon Grand Park again this autumn, and for earlier time when the foliage .almost reached the peak (80%). Here I want to update some recent photos to give you brief look how it looks like recently.

My prediction, the peak is ongoing until November 5, but you can still see it until November 15 at least.

[HowToGetThere]

  • Take subway to Songnae Station (Line 1), and get out from Exit 1.
  • Just in front of the station, you can see the bus stop. Take bus no. 103, 16-1, 909 and get off at Incheon Grand Park.

[Tips]

  • Come early in the morning to get the sunlight come through the tunnel as well as avoid many people pass by to take better pictures.
  • Take picture on the lake first when the sun is still low
  • Use the maximum zoom (any camera or phone) when you take picture of the tunnel to make “blur effect” for the further part of the tunnel.
